Bracha Lavee is an Israeli artist whose expressive art combines Jerusalem, Israeli and Bible themes with a contemporary visual style which is deeply rooted in ancient and modern biblical experiences. Her use of felt in bright, semi-tropical colors allows her to express these themes dramatically.
This beautiful piece, entitled "Shabbat in Jerusalem" depicts a table set for Shabbat with w window overlooking the city of Jerusalem. The table is set with two lit Shabbat Candles, a Kiddush Cup, Challah, and a Siddur (Prayer Book). On the right hand side the words "Shabbat Shalom" in Hebrew are written in gold foil. The sky is vibrantly colored in purples, pinks, blue and peaches. Draped over the sky is a Tallit (Prayer Shawl). To the right is a White Dove, signifying peace. This print is done in typical Bracha Lavee style, using gold foil accents and outline to give the picture that aura of mystery.
